Mr Bryan Nye, currently Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Property Institute, has been appointed Executive Director of the Australian Institute of Petroleum. The appointment takes effect from 7 August 2000.

In announcing the appointment, the Chairman of the Institute, Mr Peter Duncan, said that Mr Nye brings to the Institute substantial experience in policy development and in the management of complex public policy issues.

Prior to his appointment to the Australian Property Institute, Mr Nye served a distinguished career in the Royal Australian Navy, culminating in his appointment as Director General of Naval Manning. Mr Nye is an Applied Science Graduate of the University College of NSW and has completed Graduate Diploma in Public Administration and Strategic Studies at the Australian National University.

Mr Nye will replace Mr Jim Starkey who is retiring from the position of Executive Director after more than 10 years in the position. Mr Duncan paid tribute to Jim Starkey's outstanding contribution over this period including the most recent restructuring of the Institute and its relocation to Canberra.
